Express Talk SIP Service Providers

Below is a list of SIP based VoIP servers. The are classed according to those who offer free computer to computer calls and those who have computer to/from ordinary real phone lines. All providers listed on this page have been tested to work with our software and will work with the following NCH VoIP applications:

Please Note: Many of the companies listed on this page will give you an option to download their 'own' branded version of Express Talk or other softphone. This is usually just a version of the software 'locked' to their network. We recommend you use the standard Express Talk version from the Express Talk Softphone Download Page. This will avoid being locked into using just one particular provider and will instead leave yourself free to assigned different providers to different lines (if you want multiple numbers) or change registration services later.

If you have already downloaded Express Talk softphone there is no need to download the softphone again after signup.

Free PC to PC SIP Service Providers

The following SIP service providers allow you to make free, worldwide calls using Express Talk and our other VoIP software. Most offer free PC-to-PC calls because they make their money by offering PC-to-Phone lines.

Call Centric (Canada, USA, Europe, International)  -  ** Video Phone Capable **
Call Centric offer a good service. They are based in the USA and are a recommended option.

InPhonex (USA, UK, Canada)  -  ** Video Phone Capable **
Inphonex is a US company whose free service lets you call other people using Inphonex or any other major SIP PC service. All audio is relayed through their servers, so some communication delays may result if you are not calling within the US or Canada.

BBPGlobal (Australia, Canada and International)
BBPGlobal is one of our favorite IP-to-IP services because they have servers in so many countries and their technical tests pass on all points. They are also useful because the same account can be used for free IP-to-IP service and lets you signup for a real phone number later (see right column).

IPTel (USA)
IPTel is a non-commercial service, it lets you ring people subscribed to other providers (just type in their full SIP address). It is one of our favorite services for computer-to-computer calls.

Free World Dialup (USA)
Free World Dialup is a US company that has the reputation of hosting one of the largest VoIP communities around. The only problem is with all their options signup is not that easy.

VoIPtalk (UK)
VoIPtalk is a large UK & European provider that you can use for free to call VoIPtalk or other PC SIP users. Maybe if you are in the UK you could try this service.

DrayTEL (UK)
DrayTel is UK provider whose free service is essentially "no-frills". It lets you call DrayTel and other users.

Free IP Call (UK)
FreeIPCall is a UK/French provider whose free service lets you ring other FreeIPCall users only.

SipGate (UK)
Sipgate is a UK provider whose free service lets you ring other Sipgate customers only. This provider does not support on-hold and transfer mechanisms when making phone calls, only use it if you want a basic service.

PC to Landline SIP Service Providers

These privders offer a gateway service that allows you to call 'real' numbers from your software or have a dedicated 'real' telephone number which comes in via VoIP. There are normally fees for this but they tend to be much cheaper than fees for normal phone calls or lines.

When choosing one of these providers, it is usually better to pick a provider who offers a service specifically in your area. If you are calling a particular country a lot of the time however, choosing a provider in that country means you will pay local rates when calling there.

Call Centric (Canada, USA)
Call Centric is a good option. They are based in the USA and offer real landline numbers are available in most states of the USA and Canada. To buy a 'real number' sign up for a free account then select Order Real Number. Just like our other options, we recommend you signup up for a free account so you can test it works well, then buy a phone number.

BroadVoice (USA)
BroadVoice is a provider that is popular for VoIP in the USA. They offer local phone numbers in most states, and have a good quality service for calling regular phone numbers (and vice versa).
You must select their Bring your Own Device BYOD plan (usually the cheapest). You must also turn STUN OFF for it to work.

InPhonex (USA, UK)
Inphonex is a good provider who have gateways all around the world so you mostly only get charged local rates for that country. All audio is relayed through their servers, so some communication delays may result.

BBPGlobal (Australia, Canada, NZ)
BBPGlobal is our recommended Australian provider because it was the only company who passed all our technical compliance tests with full marks. They are also good because you can sign up for a free IP-to-IP account first so that you can test your setup then if it all works well you can upgrade your account for a real phone number. On pricing their real phone number rates (and call rates) are cheaper than the all the other providers we reviewed for Australia, Canada and New Zealand. (Broadvoice below had better rates for the USA). Note: To see land line pricing and call rates you need to fill out the form for a free account then use your account manager.

VoIPtalk (UK)
A popular UK provider.

DrayTEL (UK)
A good UK provider offering a basic service. If you just want something that works without any of the extra features and add-ons, DrayTel is a good option.

Sipgate (UK)
Sipgate offer a basic service that lets you ring any landline number you like, but it won't let you use on-hold or transferring functionality.

Phonext (BE & NL)
Phonext.com is a VoIP Service Provider that lets you use your Internet connection to make and receive phone calls. We offer pre-paid, local numbers in 35 countries and free calling between members.

We would appreciate feedback on the suitability or otherwise of the above or other VOIP providers (gateways). This information can be submitted from http://www.nch.com.au/talk/faq.html.
